Amazon Prime Video's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" series, which premiered last year, unexpectedly garnered strong critical acclaim and impressive viewership, prompting Amazon to greenlight a second season. However, the show has now transitioned into an anthology format, meaning each season will feature a different pair of actors portraying the spy couple. Consequently, Season 1 stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine will not return as the leads for the upcoming installment.

Today, entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider exclusively revealed on his paid blog, "The InSneider," that the most likely duo to headline Season 2 are Sophie Thatcher, recently seen in the film "Companion," and Russian actor Mark Eydelshteyn, who gained significant attention for his role in the Oscar-nominated "Anora."
Eydelshteyn has already been confirmed to join Season 2 as the new "Mr. Smith," while Thatcher is reportedly still in negotiations to play "Mrs. Smith." Prior to Thatcher, Billie Eilish was rumored to be in talks for the "Mrs. Smith" role, but her demanding tour schedule prevented her from committing to the production.
Sneider also noted that Glover, a college classmate of his, shared that both Glover and Erskine are expected to make cameo appearances in a few episodes of Season 2.
