The fourth installment in the hit romantic comedy franchise, "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy," officially premiered in cinemas across multiple countries last week, while exclusively debuting on Peacock in the U.S. The film has garnered generally positive reviews, accumulating solid scores on film review sites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.
Although this installment adapts the final book in the original novel series and was widely considered to be the conclusion, its overwhelmingly positive reception has inevitably sparked speculation about a potential fifth installment. Original author Helen Fielding has now addressed these questions.

Fielding recently told Variety, “I always say, ‘Okay, this is the last one, I’ve written enough,’” she said. “So I do like to exaggerate.” She added that "Mad About the Boy" wasn't originally conceived as a Bridget Jones book, making the future difficult to predict. “There might be a musical version of 'Bridget Jones's Diary' at some point,” Fielding noted. “Currently, I’m working on a book very unrelated to the Bridget Jones series, and I hope it stays that way, not morphing into another Bridget Jones book, but I can’t guarantee it.”
Fielding concluded, “The one thing I know for sure is that 'Mad About the Boy' wasn’t done with any mercenary motive. It’s not a reboot for money. It’s a story that keeps expanding, as novelists’ stories do.” She affirmed that she would only continue the series if the story was “worth expanding,” not just for financial gain, emphasizing that any new narrative “has to have meaning.”
