Netflix's highly anticipated reboot of "The Chronicles of Narnia," helmed by "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig, recently secured a rare global theatrical distribution deal with IMAX. This agreement will bring the first film in the new series to IMAX screens worldwide for an exclusive two-week run, beginning November 26, 2026, across 1,000 IMAX theaters.
However, this arrangement is unlikely to become a standard practice for Netflix films. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond (pictured below) recently indicated that while both Netflix and IMAX are pleased with the current deal, they are not in a rush to replicate this distribution model unless a mutually beneficial solution is identified.

Gelfond emphasized that finalizing the agreement was a lengthy and complex process, requiring extensive coordination due to varying regional windowing and screening schedules. He expressed confidence, however, that this unique distribution plan would attract more talent to collaborate with both companies.
In what appeared to be an accidental revelation, Gelfond also suggested that the new "Chronicles of Narnia" series is slated for eight films, which would be one more than C.S. Lewis's original seven-book series. While this could be a slip of the tongue or a memory lapse, it's also common practice to adapt a single book into multiple films. Therefore, it's plausible that one of the books in the new "Narnia" saga might be split into two cinematic installments.
