Microsoft's Playground Games has officially announced that the highly anticipated "Fable" reboot, originally slated for a 2025 release, will now launch in 2026. First revealed by Xbox in 2020, the fantasy RPG has been in development for several years, with the team opting for additional time to ensure the highest quality.

During the latest Xbox Podcast, Craig Duncan, Head of Xbox Studios, personally confirmed the delay. He stated, "We've decided to give 'Fable' more time, and the game will officially launch in 2026. I know this might not be the news everyone wants to hear, but I want to assure players that it will absolutely be worth the wait. I have immense confidence in the Playground team."
During the podcast, Duncan also showcased some of the latest "Fable" gameplay footage, which was labeled as "Pre-Alpha," indicating the game is still in its early development stages.
Additionally, Playground Games released a statement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account: "To ensure players receive the best possible gaming experience, we've decided to take more time and delay the game's release until 2026." This aligns with Duncan's remarks, underscoring the team's commitment to quality over a rushed launch.
Since its announcement in 2020, the "Fable" reboot has been one of the most highly anticipated titles for the Xbox platform. The game marks the series' return since 2017's "Fable: The Journey" and is being developed by Playground Games, renowned for their work on the "Forza Horizon" series.

Although Xbox had maintained a 2025 release date as recently as 2024, the game's development has proven more complex than anticipated. Over the past five years, Microsoft had only released a few trailers and minor development updates, with no clear game details provided until this recent podcast officially confirmed the delay.
