Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse is expanding, with "Full Metal Jacket" actor Matthew Modine officially joining the cast of the upcoming "Godzilla x Kong" film. He is reportedly set to play a general in the highly anticipated third combined "Godzilla" and "Kong" movie.
Modine is widely recognized for his recent role as the antagonist Dr. Brenner, affectionately known as "Papa," in the Netflix series "Stranger Things." Interestingly, Millie Bobby Brown, who played Eleven and shared many scenes with Modine in "Stranger Things," has already starred in two previous MonsterVerse installments: "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" and "Godzilla vs. Kong." This casting opens the door for a potential on-screen reunion between the two actors within the colossal franchise.

Grant Sputore, known for directing "I Am Mother," is set to helm the film, taking over from Adam Wingard, who directed the previous two installments, "Godzilla vs. Kong" and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." Dave Callaham, who co-wrote the 2014 "Godzilla," is returning to pen the script. Previously confirmed cast members include Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O'Connell, and Delroy Lindo. Dan Stevens, who portrayed Trapper, the Monarch veterinarian responsible for Kong in the last film, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," is also confirmed to reprise his role. The film is slated for a March 26, 2027, release.
