Jon Favreau, the acclaimed director behind the first two "Iron Man" films, has increasingly focused his career on Disney projects. He has successfully brought to life two global box office hits with live-action remakes of "The Lion King" and "The Jungle Book." Beyond that, Favreau has been a key creative force behind multiple "Star Wars" series, including "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett." Now, Disney has entrusted him with another significant intellectual property to develop.

Multiple international media outlets have recently confirmed that Favreau is developing a "live-action hybrid animation" series for Disney+, centered on the historically significant Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Favreau is attached as both writer and producer for the upcoming Disney+ exclusive.
Oswald was originally created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Pictures during the early days of Disney Animation. Disney initially intended to sell Oswald-starring productions to Universal. However, Universal reportedly acquired the rights to Oswald by enticing Disney's animators, subsequently producing Oswald cartoons independently without Disney's involvement. It was this loss of Oswald that prompted Disney to create Mickey Mouse as a replacement. Disney eventually reacquired the rights to Oswald from NBCUniversal in 2006, and the character has since made sporadic appearances in animated shorts.
While Oswald's design bears a resemblance to Mickey, his personality is often depicted as more mischievous, hot-tempered, and romantic. However, there are no further details yet on how Favreau's series will reinterpret the classic character.
