Entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on Patreon that a remake of the late Oscar winner William Hurt's iconic film "Body Heat" is in the works. Now, it's also rumored that Hurt's big-screen debut, "Altered States," is getting a remake. Both films, released less than a year apart, were originally Warner Bros. productions.

Released in 1980, "Altered States" was directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Ken Russell and penned by Paddy Chayefsky, the three-time Oscar-winning screenwriter behind "Network." The film follows Hurt as a psychophysiologist obsessed with exploring human consciousness, whose increasingly radical experiments lead to profound physical transformations. While not a box office smash, the film generally received positive reviews upon its release.

Richtman reports that Robert Pattinson has been cast to star in the new "Altered States" remake. This marks another collaboration between Pattinson, who has frequently appeared in major studio films recently, and Warner Bros., following "Tenet," "The Batman," and the upcoming "Mickey 17." The directorial reins for the remake have reportedly been handed to Trey Edward Shults (pictured above), known for "Waves," though official confirmation from the studio is still pending.
