S.H.MonsterArts "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion" - A Powerful 40cm Length, Highly Articulated Design Recreates the Alien Foe!

BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division, TAMASHII NATIONS, from Japan, has announced the latest product in its "S.H.MonsterArts" series, which combines exquisite monster sculpting with outstanding articulation technology. The "Legion", from the movie "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion", is scheduled for release in August 2025.

The powerful enemy Legion, which confronts Gamera in the movie, is a "silicon-based mechanical lifeform" that descended to Earth with a meteorite. Its appearance resembles terrestrial arthropods, with a carapace capable of reflecting electromagnetic waves, and joints that utilize high-pressure oxygen for movement. It possesses strong reproductive capabilities. Normal individuals are about 1 to 2 meters tall, while the queen's total length reaches an astonishing 160 meters. Its head features 10 sharp interference wave claws that can emit various electromagnetic waves, nullifying Gamera's fireballs. It can also spread the large horns on either side of its mouth to converge microwaves and unleash a powerful beam.

The "S.H.MonsterArts Legion" has been thoroughly supervised by sculptor Fuyuki Shinada, who was responsible for creating the Legion suit at the time. It is produced in a definitive sculpt with an impressive size of approximately 40 cm in length and 24 cm in height, faithfully recreating the complex arthropod-like body without any visible seams or imperfections from any angle.

Despite its extremely large body, it is designed with abundant articulation mechanisms. The ten "interference wave claws" on both sides of the head each feature independent movable joints. The base of the large horns at the front of the head has openable/closable joints, allowing for the recreation of the microwave beam firing state. The giant-clawed forelegs and scythe-tipped hind legs in the lower body can also be posed in multiple directions.

The entire model's coloring also references the painting techniques used for the suit at the time, making the model's appearance even closer to the suit's look, showcasing the surface texture and shadows of the entire carapace. The electronic eyes on the head utilize clear parts and internal detailed sculpting to express the texture of compound eyes, while the densely packed abdominal ovipositor uses clear parts with luxurious color application.

This product also marks the first time that the "Legion Flying Form," which was not fully depicted in the film, is recreated in an articulated figure. A transformation mechanism has been designed based on Fuyuki Shinada's newly drawn sketches of the flying form. It includes large clear wing parts with a polarizing texture, and when combined with the dedicated display stand, it can recreate the S.H.MonsterArts series' new interpretation of the flying form.
