The Russo Brothers' recent Netflix sci-fi blockbuster, "The Electric State," reportedly costing $300 million, has been met with scathing reviews and significantly underperformed in viewership. Its US streaming numbers even fell behind "Kraven the Hunter," a film released later and widely considered a theatrical box office disaster.
Following this, many online users jokingly speculated that Marvel Studios might be regretting bringing the Russo Brothers back to direct "Avengers 5: Doomsday" and "Avengers 6: Secret Wars." However, recent media reports suggest that these jokes might now be hitting closer to home.

Prominent industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello was the first to report that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige (pictured above, center) began to worry that "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars" might suffer a similar fate after witnessing the dismal performance of "The Electric State." The report suggested Feige was questioning whether re-hiring the Russo Brothers was a mistake.
Today, film journalist Daniel Richtman corroborated this report on his Patreon page, confirming Feige's growing concern. However, Richtman added that replacing the brothers at this stage is not an option. Instead, Feige reportedly plans to more rigorously oversee the production of "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars," ensuring the script and all creative elements are meticulously handled. Feige is expected to work more closely with the Russo Brothers than ever before. "Doomsday" is slated for a North American release on May 1, 2026, followed by "Secret Wars" on May 7, 2027.
