BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Toy Division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has announced the latest product from their classic alloy toy series, "Chogokin," featuring the classic robot anime "Grendizer." The new product, "Chogokin DELUXE Grendizer & UFO Spazer," is scheduled for release in September 2025.
Airing in 1975, "Grendizer" is the third installment in the "Mazinger series," a joint project between Japanese manga artist Go Nagai and Toei Animation. The story describes how the distant planet Fleed was invaded and destroyed by the Vega Alliance. The prince, along with the planet's guardian god "Grendizer," fled to Earth, where he was rescued by Genzo Umon, director of the Space Science Laboratory. Umon adopted him and named him Daisuke.
Two years later, Koji Kabuto, who once piloted Mazinger Z to defeat the Mycenae Empire, returned from studying abroad in the United States. At the same time, the Vega Empire slowly extended its reach to Earth. Daisuke resolved to overcome his past shadows, piloting the giant robot "Grendizer" to fight alongside Koji Kabuto, Hikaru Makiba, Maria, and others against the invading Vega Alliance.
The "Chogokin DELUXE Grendizer & UFO Spazer" revives the classic "Chogokin Grendizer" product released in 1975 using modern 3D scanning technology. The body and legs are made with alloy parts, faithfully reproducing the original product's sculpt, color scheme, and the characteristic anime title text on both sides of the waist.
Furthermore, the weapons included with the original product and the spring-loaded firing mechanisms common in old toys are thoroughly replicated. Grendizer's shoulder weapons, the "Spazer Double Harken," can be detached and equipped on both hands, combining into a dual-head mode. Pressing the yellow button on the arms allows the forearms to be launched, recreating the "Screw Crusher Punch."
It even includes the elusive "Anti-Gravity Spazer Cannon," a weapon that was only included with the standalone Chogokin version back then. It can be equipped on both hands and fires internal missiles. This modern revived version also adds an original combination mechanism, allowing the cannon barrel to be mounted on the back.
The support machine, "UFO Spazer," is also revived with its classic 50-year-old design, reproducing the combination method of opening the hatch and storing the main unit, as well as the drill missiles and disc missile firing mechanisms on its wings.
