Just days after news broke that "Mufasa: The Lion King" director Barry Jenkins would helm Universal Pictures' sci-fi adaptation "The Natural Order," starring Glen Powell [], Deadline now reports that Jenkins is also set to direct "Be My Baby," a biopic about the late Ronnie Spector, lead singer of the iconic girl group The Ronettes, for A24.

Titled after The Ronettes' classic hit, "Be My Baby" is based on Spector's co-written memoir of the same name. Dave Kajganich, known for his work on "Bones and All," is penning the screenplay. Zendaya was personally chosen by Spector to portray her before Spector's passing in 2022, with Spector also serving as one of the film's producers. The movie will primarily focus on Spector's complex relationship with her former husband, record producer Phil Spector, rather than offering a traditional cradle-to-grave biographical narrative.
