Nintendo's beloved "The Legend of Zelda" franchise is officially getting a live-action film, with production slated to kick off in November 2025 and wrap by April 2026. The highly anticipated first installment is eyeing a March 2027 theatrical release. However, new reports suggest this cinematic adaptation won't be a standalone feature, but rather the first chapter in an ambitious trilogy.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that Nintendo and Sony Pictures are mapping out a six-year, three-film saga. Crucially, all major cast members have reportedly signed contracts for all three installments, underscoring the production team's long-term vision and confidence in the franchise.
Should these plans materialize, "The Legend of Zelda" trilogy would mark another significant milestone for Nintendo's cinematic adaptations, following the success of "POKÉMON Detective Pikachu" and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."
The film is being co-produced by Nintendo Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto and veteran Hollywood producer Avi Arad. At the helm is Wes Ball, known for directing "The Maze Runner" trilogy.
