Netflix and Ubisoft announced a partnership in 2020 to develop streaming content based on the "Assassin's Creed" franchise, including at least one live-action series. Five years later, despite numerous new "Assassin's Creed" game releases, the series project has seen little movement, leading to speculation about its potential cancellation.

According to a report from Game File, Netflix's live-action "Assassin's Creed" series remains in "active" development. This update comes from an interview with Alain Tascan, head of Netflix's games division, though specific progress and a release timeline remain unclear.
Few details about the series have been officially released to date. Jeb Stuart, known for his screenwriting work on "Die Hard," was once attached to the project but has since departed the production team.

Furthermore, the "Assassin's Creed" mobile game, jointly announced by Netflix and Ubisoft in 2022, also appears to have been canceled. Tascan hinted during the interview that its development had ceased.
This isn't the first time Netflix has halted an "Assassin's Creed"-related project. In 2017, Netflix announced an animated "Assassin's Creed" series in collaboration with Adi Shankar, producer of the "Castlevania" animated series, but that project ultimately did not materialize.
Notably, Tascan stated at last month's Game Developers Conference (GDC) that he believes game consoles are not the focus of future development. He emphasized Netflix's greater interest in mobile-controlled party games, further posing the question, "Do 8- or 10-year-olds really dream of owning a PlayStation 6?" These remarks have garnered industry attention and sparked curiosity about Netflix's future gaming strategy.
