Last December, Deadline reported that Disney's long-gestating live-action film "Tangled" was set to be directed by Michael Gracey, known for "The Greatest Showman". However, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has now revealed that Disney has abruptly halted pre-production on the "Tangled" live-action adaptation. The film was reportedly scheduled to begin principal photography this summer.

This decision comes after the live-action "Snow White" is projected to incur losses of approximately $100 to $200 million. Some viewers and media outlets are speculating that Disney is concerned about potential damage to the box office appeal of its future live-action princess adaptations, leading to this pre-emptive halt. THR emphasized that it remains unclear whether this is a permanent cancellation, a temporary pause, or if the production team is re-evaluating the creative direction of the project.

The live-action "Tangled" was originally being written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote "Thor: Love and Thunder" and directed Netflix's "Do Revenge". There were also previous rumors suggesting that Disney was considering Florence Pugh for the role of Rapunzel. However, it is currently unknown if any casting decisions had been finalized before the production halt.
