Of Chinese wuxia novelist Wang Dulu's "Crane-Iron" pentalogy, the fourth installment, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," remains the most widely celebrated. The book gained immense global recognition after Oscar-winning director Ang Lee adapted it into the acclaimed 2000 film of the same name, which grossed over $200 million worldwide. This enduring popularity led to a U.S.-China co-production of a sequel, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny," 16 years later. Despite "Sword of Destiny" not achieving the same success as its predecessor, Hollywood's interest in adapting the novel series has not waned.

Today, Deadline exclusively reported that Amazon has officially greenlit a television series adaptation of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." The project initially began in 2023 when Sony Pictures reacquired the rights to Wang Dulu's original novel. Sony then tapped Jason Ning, a writer known for "Lucifer" and "The Brothers Sun," to pen the series script. Now, with Amazon joining the production, veteran writer and producer Ronald D. Moore, acclaimed for his work on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Battlestar Galactica," is also on board as an executive producer.
