Produced by Japan's PLEX Corporation and distributed by X-PLUS Corporation, the soft vinyl figure series themed after Toho's tokusatsu monsters, "Toho 30cm Series," has announced the re-release of the product "Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla (2002) Attack and Defense in the Storm" from "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" in July 2025.
The Godzilla appearing in "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" is set to be the same species as the original Godzilla that attacked Japan in 1954, standing approximately 55 meters tall. It features a reptilian-like head, sharp massive dorsal fins, and other designs, somewhat similar to "Millennium Godzilla" but more restrained and compact, with its body color returning to traditional dark gray skin and silver dorsal fins. In the film, this Godzilla landed on Japan's Boso Peninsula in 1999 with a typhoon, causing significant damage. The Anti-Beast Maser Cannons of the Special Self-Defense Force had no effect on him. Therefore, the Japanese government decided to salvage the bones of the original Godzilla to create the powerful anti-G weapon, "Type-3 Kiryu."
The "Toho 30cm Series Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla (2002) Attack and Defense in the Storm" is sculpted by Japan's foremost Godzilla sculptor, Yuji Sakai. The overall pose design is inspired by the scene at the beginning of the film where Godzilla lands on the Boso Peninsula. Godzilla, under fire from the Maser Cannons in the storm, furiously retaliates with his atomic breath and stomping, glaring intensely at the protagonist, Akane Yashiro, who was in the vehicle at the time.
The product uses the lost-wax casting method to create a metal model. This significantly reduces consumption during the mass production process using soft vinyl material. It meticulously reproduces the detailed sculpt precisely carved by Master Yuji Sakai, allowing Godzilla's fierce head sculpt, rough skin texture, and the sharpness of its massive dorsal fins to be faithfully recreated. Furthermore, the paint colors of the mass-produced item are fully supervised by Yuji Sakai, aiming to reproduce the paint effect of the original prototype as much as possible on the soft vinyl material.
