Renowned Japanese director Takashi Miike is making a significant move into Hollywood this year, with two English-language films currently in development. One of these projects is a remake of his own iconic 1999 horror film, "Audition." The remake plans first surfaced in late January, with Universal Pictures subsidiary Focus Features slated for distribution. More recently, Variety exclusively reported that British singer Charli XCX is set to star in the American version of "Audition."

Miike's other upcoming English-language feature is "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo," the third installment in the "Bad Lieutenant" series. The franchise originated with Abel Ferrara's 1992 film "Bad Lieutenant." Later, in 2009, acclaimed German director Werner Herzog helmed "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," which shared thematic elements but was not directly connected to the original narrative.

As its title suggests, Miike's "Bad Lieutenant" film will be primarily set in Tokyo and is a U.S.-Japan co-production, with Neon Films handling distribution. Production is expected to begin this month, and key cast members have been announced, including Shun Oguri, Lily James, and WWE professional wrestler Liv Morgan.
Oguri will portray the titular corrupt police officer, a gambler in the Metropolitan Police Force. James is cast as an enigmatic FBI agent who arrives in Tokyo to investigate the disappearance of a politician's daughter, played by Morgan. As the two collaborate on the case, a deviant killer operating within the yakuza underworld will be shadowing their every move.
