PLEX Co. of Japan produces, and X-PLUS Co. distributes, the "Toho Large Monsters" series of soft vinyl monster figures based on Toho films' kaiju. They have announced the latest product from the movie "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack", the "FAVORITE SCULPTORS LINE King Ghidorah (2001) Fierce Battle Color Ver.", slated for release in July 2025.
The King Ghidorah appearing in this work is set as "Vidora, the Sky God" recorded in the "Guardian Beasts Chronicle". It slowly grew while slumbering in an underground ice cave within the Aokigahara forest at Mt. Fuji. Legend has it that when it awakens after ten thousand years to its complete form, it will be the strongest sacred beast dominating the sea, land, and sky. However, upon this awakening, it was only in an incomplete state, making it difficult to contend with the destructive, god-like Godzilla. Even after Mothra's self-sacrifice allowed it to grow into its complete form, its powerful gravity beams were still absorbed and countered by Godzilla.
The "FAVORITE SCULPTORS LINE King Ghidorah (2001) Fierce Battle Color Ver." is a modification of the standard version released in 2017. The overall sculpt was created with the cooperation of sculptor Shunsuke Niwa (MONSTER MAKER 28), reproducing the awakened form of the "Millennium Dragon King" in an impressive size of 48 cm in length and 57 cm in width. It meticulously captures details such as the sharp scales across its body, the heads incorporating the image of Komainu (guardian lion-dogs), and its massive spread wings.
Compared to the previous standard version, this Fierce Battle Color Ver. departs from the original golden hue across its entire body. It has been re-applied with a weathered paint job featuring a dirty texture, using subdued colors to depict its appearance during the decisive battle with Godzilla in Yokohama Bay.
