Ryan Reynolds, who serves as writer, producer, and star of the "Deadpool" franchise, stated last year that he hoped to see Deadpool take on a less central role in future installments. He expressed a desire for the character to interact with more peers on equal footing, or even appear as a supporting character. Reynolds believes Deadpool's unique qualities shine brightest in ensemble casts or when serving as a foil to other characters. It appears he is now putting that philosophy into action.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed today that Reynolds is indeed officially developing a new "Deadpool" film that will incorporate characters from the "X-Men" universe. The plan is reportedly to focus on three to four "X-Men" characters, with Deadpool potentially taking a supporting role. Reynolds reportedly feels that a slightly marginalized Deadpool could lead to unexpected dramatic effects for the other "X-Men" characters.

However, THR also emphasized that this concept is still in its very early stages of development. Reynolds previously penned several vastly different story versions while brainstorming for the third "Deadpool" film, so there's still considerable uncertainty about whether this particular direction will be the final approved version.
