To celebrate the annual Star Wars Day on May 4th, a grand event for Star Wars fans, the world-renowned Hong Kong toy manufacturer Hot Toys has launched a new product themed after the film "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace" – the "Jar Jar Binks" 1/6th scale collectible figure. It has a suggested retail price of US$285 and is expected to ship in Q4 2025!
Jar Jar Binks, who appeared in the prequel trilogy, can arguably be called the most unpopular character in the Star Wars film series. His clumsy, unlikable personality combined with a significant amount of screen time caused dissatisfaction among fans who eagerly entered theaters to experience the magic of Star Wars once again. His unique accent and jester-like design also drew external criticism, with some suggesting it was based on stereotypes of the Jamaican-descended Black community. However, this shared dislike for the character has also become a meme among Star Wars fans, leading to many interesting conspiracy theories and even, in a roundabout way, gaining him quite a few followers!
This Jar Jar Binks 1/6th scale collectible figure stands approximately 33 cm tall, meticulously crafted to replicate his appearance during his first encounter on Naboo in Episode I. The sculpt faithfully recreates the Gungan's iconic long ears and slightly hunched posture. His gray attire from the film is reproduced with fabric materials, and the arms are made using seamless silicone technology, with delicate paint applications to capture his unique orange-red amphibian patterns, vividly bringing his cinematic image to life!
Accessories include an open-mouth sculpted head, a detachable tongue, two sets of interchangeable eyeballs, three pairs of interchangeable hands, and a Gungan weapon, the Booma Ball. These can be combined with the highly articulated body to recreate his comical poses from the film! Now, toy collectors can finally swap out Jar Jar's head sculpt to make him shut up!
