Tarlin International Co., Ltd. (formerly EPOCH Gashapon Division), a toy brand known for releasing many trending products, has launched its latest humorous item: the "Massaging Tanuki's Golden Pouch" (tentative translation, もみもみたぬきん。) capsule toy. Available in four types, with a suggested retail price of 400 JPY per capsule, it is scheduled to be released in May 2025.
Tanuki, a creature with a long history in Japanese folklore and mythology, is considered a messenger of the gods in Shintoism and possesses supernatural abilities. They are often depicted with mischievous personalities, enjoying using their supernatural powers to play tricks and jokes on humans. Common tanuki statues are associated with the "Hassō-en" (Eight Aspects of Good Fortune), where large eyes, a sake bottle, and a round belly, among others, each represent one of eight lucky symbols. Among these, the testicles (golden pouch), which symbolize luck and bring wealth, are particularly rich in legendary tales.
The "Massaging Tanuki's Golden Pouch" capsule toy emphasizes the proverb "Tanuki's testicles, eight tatami mats wide" (狸の金玉 八畳敷き). It is made from soft vinyl material, presenting a comical design where the tanuki's testicles are larger than its body. It offers a delightfully soft and squishy tactile sensation when squeezed! Available in four colors: Chestnut Brown, White Tea, Yamabuki (bright yellow), and Uguisu (bush warbler green), they are quite colorful and adorable! Frequent squeezing might even bring good fortune~ Makes you want to get one and give it a squeeze, doesn't it?
