Denzel Washington and director Spike Lee, who previously collaborated on acclaimed films like "Inside Man," "Malcolm X," "He Got Game," and "Mo' Better Blues," are set to deliver their fifth feature film together this summer. Today, the first teaser trailer and a new poster (pictured below) have been unveiled for their latest project, "High and Low."
The star-studded cast features Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, rapper A$AP Rocky, and Ice Spice. The film is slated for a limited theatrical release in North America on August 22, followed by its streaming debut on Apple TV+ on September 5. Its global premiere will take place this month in the Out of Competition section at the Cannes Film Festival.

"High and Low," co-produced and distributed by Apple Original Films and A24, is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's classic 1963 film "High and Low." The original Japanese masterpiece was itself an adaptation of American author Ed McBain's novel "King's Ransom."
The original "High and Low" follows shoe company executive Kingo Gondo, who receives a ransom demand for his son. However, both parties soon realize that the kidnapped child is actually his chauffeur's son. Gondo, despite having the funds, is hesitant to pay as his company desperately needs a substantial investment to avoid collapse. Ultimately, a compassionate Gondo decides to pay the ransom to save the child, a benevolent act that inadvertently plunges him into a meticulously orchestrated financial crisis. The extent to which the new film's plot will mirror the original remains to be seen.
