The 1999 teen romantic comedy "10 Things I Hate About You," which launched the careers of Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, remains a beloved classic for fans who revisit it often. Despite the film's release 26 years ago and Ledger's passing 17 years prior, most audiences wouldn't expect a continuation. However, director Gil Junger has now revealed his plans for a "sequel trilogy" to People magazine.

Junger stated that he is currently collaborating with original producer Andrew Lazar and emerging screenwriter Naya Elle James on a trio of follow-up films. The proposed titles, in order, are "10 Things I Hate About Dating," "10 Things I Hate About Marriage," and "10 Things I Hate About Kids." While studio approval for the entire slate is still pending, Junger expressed confidence that at least the second installment is a definite possibility.

Though "10 Things I Hate About You," a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," has never had a direct film sequel, it was adapted into a television sitcom in 2009 (which was canceled after one season), and a Broadway musical version was announced just last month. While Ledger's return is impossible, Junger is eager to reunite other original cast members, including Stiles. Regarding Ledger, Junger also hopes to incorporate a tribute to him within the films, stating that "He deserves to be loved."
