A live-action film adaptation of Bandai Namco Entertainment's acclaimed Souls-like game, "Elden Ring," is reportedly in development. Earlier today, foreign media outlet Nexus Point News broke the story, claiming that A24 had acquired the rights and hired director Alex Garland (pictured below), who recently collaborated with the studio on "Civil War" and the upcoming "Warfare," to helm the project. However, the article was quickly taken down shortly after publication.

Nexus Point News did not provide a reason for the takedown, leading to widespread speculation that the information might have been incorrect. However, renowned film journalist Jeff Sneider, in a follow-up report on his blog, The InSneider, stated that while he was unsure why Nexus Point News removed the article, he was confident the report was accurate. Sneider added that Garland was still only in talks to direct and had not officially signed on, further expressing his doubt that the deal would ultimately materialize.

A24, primarily known for distributing low-budget independent films, has recently begun venturing into larger productions. Two years ago, the studio announced a deal with Hideo Kojima to co-produce a live-action "Death Stranding" film, and just last month, tapped "A Quiet Place: Day One" director Michael Sarnoski to write and direct. "Elden Ring" could potentially be A24's next major commercial project.
