Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper, who famously helmed "The King's Speech" and "The Danish Girl," earning Colin Firth and Eddie Redmayne respective Best Actor Oscars, has been notably absent from feature filmmaking for six years. Following the widespread critical scorn and box office flop of his 2019 film adaptation of "Cats," Hooper had exclusively directed commercials. Now, after a six-year hiatus, he is poised to return to the big screen.

Deadline recently exclusively reported that Hooper's next project will be "Photograph 51," a biopic centered on British physical chemist Rosalind Franklin (pictured above). The film's title refers to Franklin's groundbreaking X-ray diffraction image of DNA, famously known as "Photo 51." Academy Award winner Natalie Portman is confirmed to star as Franklin, with American playwright Anna Ziegler penning the screenplay.
The film is directly adapted from Ziegler's eponymous play, which premiered in 2015. Notably, the original stage production starred another Academy Award winner, Nicole Kidman, who earned a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance.
