DC's "Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League" Becomes Financial Burden; Warner Bros. Games Still Reeling a Year Later

Warner Bros. Games recently released its Q1 FY2025 financial report. While "Hogwarts Legacy" and "Mortal Kombat 1" continue to generate revenue, the overall performance fell short of expectations.

Among its titles, "Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League," which launched in early 2023, was once again singled out as the primary "culprit" dragging down revenue.

Developed by Rocksteady Studios, this multiplayer co-op shooter was initially met with high anticipation but has been heavily criticized since its release. Players have largely disapproved of its game design, system mechanics, and even its operational strategy.

The game's post-launch performance significantly underperformed, resulting in millions of dollars in losses for Warner Bros. Even after support for the title was discontinued earlier this year, its shadow continues to loom over the entire games division.

According to the financial report, Warner Bros. Games' revenue for Q1 FY2025 plummeted by 48% compared to the same period last year. The company attributed the decline primarily to the lack of a major new release this quarter, coupled with "Suicide Squad's" failure to sustain any long-term value, severely impacting overall results.

Furthermore, the failure of "Suicide Squad" indirectly led to the cancellation of another major title reportedly in development, "Wonder Woman." Warner Bros. has undergone several internal restructurings, indicating the unprecedented pressure facing its games division.

Despite these challenges, Warner Bros. has not entirely abandoned its gaming ventures. "Hogwarts Legacy" and "Mortal Kombat 1" continue to generate stable revenue, and the company plans to further deepen the development and marketing of these two major brands.
