Development on the upcoming DC Universe film "The Brave and the Bold," a new take on Batman, remains on hold, leaving director Andy Muschietti (pictured above, right) with ample time for other projects. Deadline recently reported that Muschietti is set to direct the sci-fi adaptation "Drift" for Skydance, the production company behind the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. His longtime collaborator and sister, Barbara Muschietti, will also serve as a producer on the film.

"Drift" is based on an as-yet-unpublished 38-page short story by Ben Queen and Jason Shuman, who are also penning the screenplay. The film will tell the story of an estranged astronaut whose son goes missing during a mission. Upon learning the news, his once-revered but now retired and disillusioned astronaut father joins a high-stakes space hostage exchange mission, determined to rescue his son from alien captors. Skydance reportedly acquired the film rights for $2 million on Tuesday, with the deal closing in less than 24 hours after it hit the market.
