Japanese model manufacturer Studio SYUTO has launched its latest product, using offerings for Japan's Obon Festival as its theme (???): the "Spirit Horse Cucumber and Eggplant" 1/1 Scale Assembly Model Kit, with a suggested retail price of 2,420 JPY, scheduled for release in July 2025!
The "Spirit Horse (Shoryoma)" is one of the offerings for ancestors during Japan's Obon Festival (Obon). It is crafted into the image of a vehicle, made from cucumbers and eggplants combined with four legs made of ramie stalks, and is used to welcome and send off the spirits of ancestors. The cucumber represents the "welcoming horse," while the eggplant represents the "farewell ox."
▼Spirit Horse is a general term, not limited to horse shapes, and has evolved into various other vehicle forms over time. (Image source: @satosekizai.)
The "Spirit Horse Assembly Model Cucumber and Eggplant" appearing this time uses three molded plastic colors: green, purple, and light yellow (for the legs), realistically recreating the raised prickles of the cucumber and the bumpy texture of the eggplant, and can be assembled quite easily. The base of the legs features a ball joint design, making all four legs posable. The main body also has 10 holes with a 3mm diameter, allowing it to be combined with other products for enjoyment~ (But is it really okay to have your own toys ride on this!?)
