While the highly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto VI" is slated for a May 26, 2026, launch, that date may not be set in stone, according to a report from Bloomberg News senior reporter Jason Schreier. The report indicates that the immense influence of "Grand Theft Auto VI" has put the entire gaming industry on edge, with some developers quietly adjusting their own game release schedules to avoid direct competition.

Schreier cited a developer working on a major multiplayer online game who had originally planned a Fall 2025 release but ultimately pushed it to Spring 2026. The reasons, according to the developer, were partly due to ongoing development needs and partly a "deliberate effort to avoid 'Grand Theft Auto VI'."
This isn't the first time Rockstar Games' upcoming title has reportedly pressured the industry. Renowned producer Hideo Kojima previously revealed that "Grand Theft Auto VI" has already had a substantial impact on the release timelines of multiple games, underscoring its significant market position and immense buzz.

Schreier pointed out that with Rockstar's history of delays, the industry can no longer have absolute confidence in the May 2026 date.
He stated bluntly, "There is no guarantee that this is the final release date." This uncertainty, he added, has left other game companies in a dilemma, fearing both a head-on collision with "Grand Theft Auto VI" and the prospect of altering their schedules in vain.
Rockstar Games has not yet responded to these rumors. However, what remains certain is that the ripple effect "Grand Theft Auto VI" has unleashed on the industry continues, with the gaming world's blend of anticipation and trepidation for its official debut being almost unprecedented.
