Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, an Oscar nominee for "City of God," is set to return to feature film directing after a six-year hiatus. Following his acclaimed work on "The Two Popes," Meirelles has primarily focused on television, helming episodes for series like "The Sympathizer" and "Sugar." Now, he's slated to direct a new heist crime film for Netflix.

The upcoming project, titled "Here Comes the Flood," is based on a script Netflix acquired back in 2020. While comedy star Jason Bateman was previously in talks to direct, the film's cast has now been finalized, featuring Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones in starring roles. Simon Kinberg, known for his writing and producing work on the "X-Men" franchise, is attached as the screenwriter.

"Here Comes the Flood" is described by various international outlets as an unconventional heist film. Its plot centers on a deadly game of deception and betrayal involving a bank security guard, a teller, and a master thief, presented through a non-linear narrative structure.
