Japan's 《Mobile Suit Gundam》 official Gunpla flagship store GUNDAM BASE announced the latest limited product from the anime 《Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans》, 「MGSD Gundam Barbatos [Iron-Blood Coating Ver.]」, scheduled to be released in June 2025.
ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is the mobile suit piloted by protagonist Mikazuki Augus in 《Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans》. It was originally one of 72 Gundam Frame mobile suits built 300 years ago during the 「Calamity War」 to combat Mobile Armors (MA). Although its armor has deteriorated after centuries of neglect, the frame's performance remains as good as new, featuring flexible articulation, high mobility, and high versatility, excelling in close-quarters melee combat. When linked with Mikazuki's Alaya-Vijnana System, its reaction capabilities are further enhanced, allowing intuitive control of the mobile suit's posture directly through the brain, enabling explosive movements and power even under gravity.
「MGSD Gundam Barbatos [Iron-Blood Coating Ver.]」 is a modification of the previously released regular version. All exterior armor parts, unlike the original white, yellow, blue, and red plastic molding colors, have been re-treated with a semi-glossy silver-gray electroplating finish, presenting a metallic primary color that resembles unpainted metal armor, exuding a profound sense of weight.
Aside from differences in color and box art, other designs and contents are identical to the regular version. The 「MGSD Gundam Barbatos,」 standing approximately 11.5 cm tall upon completion, integrates MG series technology to create its distinctive 「Gundam Frame」 with intricate details and flexible articulation. This includes four-axis head articulation, internal torso movable axis, hydraulic cylinder linkage on both sides of the waist, interlocking shoulder armor deployment, and knee armor bending linkage. The entire model is designed with numerous movable joints and armor interlocking mechanisms specifically for the SD scale, further expanding the mobile suit's range of motion, allowing Barbatos to recreate its wild combat poses using various melee weapons from the series.
The twin-eye cameras feature a double-layer design, allowing the green clear parts to reveal internal mechanical details. The patterns on the chest, knees, and shoulders utilize highly reflective clear parts with 「REFLECTION CUT」 technology, creating a glowing effect. Parts such as the hydraulic cylinders use the new technology 「REAL METALLIC GLOSSINJECTION」, making the metallic molded colors even closer to real metal tones.
Accessories include three types of armaments: the Mace, Katana, and 300mm Smoothbore Gun. The 300mm Smoothbore Gun faithfully recreates its storage transformation mechanism by rotating the barrel 180 degrees. The Mace, on the other hand, features a new original mechanism where the tip and four blades interlock and deploy when the long handle is pressed in.
