The 'HG (High Grade)' Gunpla series, known for its comprehensive lineup of mobile suits faithfully recreating their anime appearances, produced by BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division in Japan, first showcased the latest product, the in-development prototype of "HG 1/144 GUNDAM NION", from the side story manga "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Vanadis Heart" at the '63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show'. It will be sold exclusively on PREMIUM BANDAI in the future.
The story of "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Vanadis Heart" takes place in A.S. 106, five years after the prequel 'Vanadis Incident'. Dr. Vilda Miren, who researches GUND for medical applications, and her young assistant Kiyuu Labot journey to Earth aboard a massive cargo ship. The item they are transporting is a mobile suit named "Gundam Lfrith Jiu". Vilda's goal for this journey is to put an end to the "curse" born from the ideal of GUND technology.
The "GUNDAM NION", announced for an HG 1/144 Gunpla release, is a new mobile suit that appeared in the latest chapters of "Vanadis Heart", and is known as the "Gundam that saves people". Mechanical designer Wataru Inada is responsible for its design. The model thoroughly reproduces its distinctive large V-fin antenna, massive shoulder/thigh armor, and the huge wing-like structures on its back, which makes one anticipate if they conceal any special functions.
