The "Final Destination" horror franchise, dormant for 14 years, has made a triumphant return this year with its sixth installment, "Final Destination: Bloodlines." Living up to expectations, the film immediately claimed the top spot at the box office in its opening week, raking in a staggering $51 million. This shatters the previous franchise record of $27.4 million set by the fourth film, making "Bloodlines" the highest-grossing opening in the series' history. Internationally, "Bloodlines" also pulled in approximately $51 million, bringing its global opening weekend total to an impressive $102 million.

Even without adjusting for inflation, "Bloodlines" also stands as the most expensive film in the franchise to produce, surpassing the $40 million budgets of the first two installments. However, "Bloodlines" has garnered strong critical acclaim, with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Notably, it boasts an exceptionally rare 93% critics' score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, far exceeding any previous film in the series. This strong reception suggests that its box office performance will likely remain stable, continuing to draw steady audiences.

"Bloodlines" also marks a recent three-film winning streak at the box office for Warner Bros. Pictures. After a string of financial disappointments with "Joker: Folie à Deux," "Mickey 17," and "The Alto Knights," the studio is finally regaining momentum thanks to "A Minecraft Movie," which has now amassed $928 million globally, "Sinners," which has surpassed $300 million, and "Bloodlines," which crossed the $100 million mark in its opening week.

Marvel Studios, however, might not be as fortunate. Reports suggest that "Captain America: Brave New World," with a rumored production budget exceeding $300 million, ultimately grossed just over $400 million. After factoring in marketing costs, which typically run upwards of $100 million for major blockbusters, and theatrical splits, it's almost certain to be a financial loss. Meanwhile, "Thunderbolts*", which has received noticeably better audience reception, had a combined production and marketing budget of approximately $280 million. Yet, nearly a month into its release, its box office has only barely surpassed $325 million. Once theatrical splits are accounted for, Marvel and Disney Studios are unlikely to see significant profits.
