The Age-Old Question: How Big Is the Nintendo Switch 2, Really? Media Compares It to Handhelds Across Generations

Nintendo's next-gen console, the Nintendo Switch 2, officially dropped on June 5, 2025, riding high on the original Switch's success and reigniting player hype. But with a new handheld in town, the age-old question inevitably pops up: "Just how big is the Switch 2?"

Gaming outlet "Nintendo Life" has dropped a series of real-world comparisons, snapping the Switch 2 alongside a host of legendary handhelds to give us a crystal-clear visual reference. While this epic showdown doesn't cover every classic (sorry, Atari Lynx and TurboExpress fans!), it still packs in most of the big names you'd expect, making for a seriously comprehensive lineup.

Diving into Nintendo's own family tree, the Switch 2 was pitted against the Game Boy series, DS and 3DS models, and its predecessors, the Switch OLED and Switch Lite. From the looks of it, the Switch 2 is slightly larger than the Switch Lite, pretty close to the Switch OLED in size, but still keeps that sleek, lightweight feel.

The report also throws in a few non-Nintendo classics, including SEGA's Game Gear, WonderSwan, Neo Geo Pocket Color, the entire Sony PSP lineup, and even recent hits like the Playdate and Steam Deck OLED. Among these devices, the Switch 2 hits a sweet spot in size, blending portability with screen real estate, and is hailed for finding a new balance in handheld history.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 is still fresh off the presses, initial player feedback and media hands-on reviews show this new console is already generating serious buzz and attention. As more user experiences and detailed reviews roll out, the Switch 2's true market performance will be one to watch.
