When you talk classic fighting games, Street Fighter immediately comes to mind. And for over three decades, the iconic female character Chun-Li has reigned supreme, beloved by players for her dazzling leg techniques and striking looks.
Recently, a video of a Japanese kickboxing match went viral on X (formerly Twitter), with international netizens hailing one fighter as the "real-life Chun-Li." That fighter is none other than 24-year-old Japanese pro, Mona Kimura, who's now blowing up across the internet, both domestically and abroad.
Kimura is a master of Taekwondo, boxing, and kickboxing. She even represented Japan at the 2022 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships. Since making her professional kickboxing debut last November – which she won, by the way – her exceptional leg work has wowed countless spectators.
The viral clip shared by international fans actually shows Kimura facing off against Yuka☆ at Krush.170 on January 26, 2025. In that match, her dominant leg techniques, combined with her signature hairstyle, led netizens to declare her the "real-life Chun-Li." The video racked up over 160,000 likes in just two days.
After blowing up online, Mona Kimura gained a massive following and an outpouring of support. She even retweeted the viral video herself, expressing gratitude and promising to work even harder.
Thanks to her Taekwondo background, Kimura boasts incredible single-leg balance. This allows her to unleash her full arsenal of leg techniques in kickboxing matches, constantly disrupting opponents and landing heavy blows. It's no wonder she's garnered so much attention in just half a year since joining the pro circuit.
▼ Even Masato Channel on YouTube dropped by her training gym for an interview.
While she's fierce in the ring, Mona Kimura always sports an adorable smile outside of it. This charming contrast has won over countless fans, quickly earning her a massive following.
Kickboxing might be a niche sport, but thanks to social media, this talented and charismatic fighter is getting the spotlight she deserves. If you're curious, definitely check out her matches – she truly embodies that "real-life Chun-Li" vibe!
