Monster Hunter Wilds' CEDEC Performance Optimization Talk Canceled Amidst Player Backlash: "Fix the Game First!"

Capcom's highly anticipated "Monster Hunter Wilds" dropped its second free update at the end of June, but it unleashed a cascade of chaos instead! Players were hit with relentless crashes, freezes, and a whole host of stability issues. With quality control clearly taking a vacation, fans didn't hold back, slamming the game with a barrage of negative reviews.

Meanwhile, the Japan Game Developers Conference "CEDEC 2025," originally set for July 22-24, had a session lined up all about "Monster Hunter Wilds" performance optimization. But here's the kicker: organizers quietly scrubbed the talk from the schedule recently, with no explanation given. Naturally, players are having a field day, sarcastically pointing out that discussing optimization for this game right now would be an absolute joke.

"CEDEC" stands as one of Japan's premier computer entertainment developer conferences, a hub for sharing cutting-edge tech and knowledge in the gaming world. This annual three-day extravaganza hosts around 200 sessions across seven tracks: engineering, production, visual arts, business & production, audio, game design, and academic research. It's a must-attend event for many game developers.

The original session title was "Making 'Monster Hunter Wilds' Run Smoothly! A Complete Analysis of Performance Tuning" (『モンスターハンターワイルズ』を快適な動作に導く!パフォーマンス調整の全て), slated for July 24 by Capcom. While that talk got the axe, other sessions, like "The Secret to the Monster Hunter Series' 21 Years of Continuous Sales" (モンスターハンターシリーズ 21年の継続と仕掛け), are still on.

Of course, the title of that now-canceled talk was particularly ironic, given "Monster Hunter Wilds" has been absolutely hammered by players recently for its abysmal stability. I mean, seriously, how do you talk about optimizing a game at a dev conference when your own game is a hot mess? Players are now openly mocking the cancellation, saying Capcom clearly chickened out and wouldn't dare discuss that topic now...

"Monster Hunter Wilds" launched in late February this year, quickly smashing past 10 million global sales by March, riding a massive wave of hype. However, post-launch, many PC players tore into the game for its instability and perceived lack of content, leading to a flood of negative reviews. As of July 7, its overall rating on Steam is "Mixed," with recent reviews plummeting to "Overwhelmingly Negative."

Despite a steady stream of patches, player complaints about game stability haven't let up. On July 4, Capcom released an infographic detailing fixed issues, upcoming features, and known problems, aiming to boost communication with its player base. They also announced plans to fast-track fixes for some bugs originally slated for later, all in an effort to improve the player experience.

Whether these efforts will actually deliver a better gaming experience and win back player confidence remains to be seen.
