The wildly popular "The Big Bang Theory" franchise, which has spawned numerous spinoffs, officially announced its third offshoot in March. Centered on "Stuart," the series is titled "Stuart Fails To Save The Universe." Today, HBO Max confirmed the show has received a full series order and released its official synopsis. The description is likely to surprise many fans, as it introduces genuine sci-fi elements, marking a significant genre shift for the franchise.

The official synopsis reveals that comic book store owner Stuart accidentally breaks a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, inadvertently triggering a multiverse apocalypse. He is then tasked with repairing reality. Stuart receives help from his girlfriend Denise, his geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/all-around nuisance Kripke. Along the way, they encounter familiar and beloved "The Big Bang Theory" characters, albeit as parallel universe versions. As the title suggests, the mission to restore reality does not go smoothly.
Chuck Lorre, executive producer for all "The Big Bang Theory" related series, stated, "I wanted to try something radical that would push me out of my comfort zone, something that some of 'The Big Bang Theory' characters would love, hate, and argue about."

Kevin Sussman, who played Stuart in the original series, is confirmed to return in the starring role. Other returning supporting cast members from the parent show include Lauren Lapkus as Stuart's girlfriend Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Sheldon's colleague Kripke. Lorre will also continue as a writer and will executive produce alongside "The Big Bang Theory" co-creator Bill Prady.
