Get ready, Rumiko Takahashi fans! Her latest hit manga, "MAO," is officially getting a TV anime adaptation, NHK announced today (14th).

This isn't Takahashi-sensei's first rodeo; "MAO" will be her ninth manga to hit the small screen as a TV anime, and her seventh regularly serialized work to get the animated treatment.
What's "MAO" all about? The story centers on Nanoka Kiba, a middle schooler who survived a mysterious accident with her parents at age seven, though her memories are hazy. Years later, a trip back to the accident site throws her headfirst into the Taisho era, where she crosses paths with Mao, a young Onmyoji. He drops a bombshell: Nanoka might be under a "Cat Demon" curse! To unravel the curse and the truth behind her past, Nanoka and Mao team up for an epic adventure through time.
And the cast reveal is here! Natsumi Kawaida steps into the role of protagonist Nanoka Kiba, while the enigmatic Mao will be voiced by none other than Yuki Kaji. Rounding out the main crew are Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Kamon and Hiro Shimono as Hyakka.

Mark your calendars! "MAO" is slated to premiere in Spring 2026, with animation handled by the legendary Sunrise.
