Fully Remade "Fate/EXTRA Record" Pushed to Spring 2026; Dev Team Apologizes: "Just a Little More Time, Please!"

Last August at "FGO Fes. 2024," TYPE-MOON studio BB dropped a bombshell, announcing that the fully remade RPG, "Fate/EXTRA Record," was in development and slated for a 2025 release. This news sent ripples of excitement through the long-waiting Fate fanbase.

Well, hold onto your hats, Fate fans, because we've got some bittersweet news. Today (July 22), Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that "Fate/EXTRA Record," originally planned for 2025, is now officially delayed until Spring 2026. The game is still heading to Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and Steam. While the wait just got a bit longer, the official website simultaneously unveiled product details for various editions, including the super premium version, and opened pre-orders.

"Fate/EXTRA Record" is a complete remake of "Fate/EXTRA," the very first RPG in the "Fate" series, which originally launched on PSP back in 2010. The game plunges players into "SE.RA.PH," a virtual space crafted by the Spiritron Computer "Mooncell Automaton," where a new Moon Holy Grail War ignites, fueled by mages and heroic spirits.

The remake was actually announced way back in 2020, but details remained scarce regarding platforms and release dates. Last year's official release window announcement was a pleasant surprise for many, only for that excitement to be tempered by this fresh wave of news: a delay. The development team stated that the postponement is "to ensure players get a truly top-tier, beefed-up experience," hence the decision to take a little more time for polish.

Kazuya Niinou, the project lead and head of TYPE-MOON studio BB, took to X (formerly Twitter) to personally drop the apology bomb: "I am truly sorry for making everyone wait so long... This is my first time making a game where every single character (even NPCs!) is fully voiced, and I totally fumbled the development timeline... But I promise you'll feel totally immersed and have a blast! Just... gimme a little more time, okay?"

Even with the delay, fans won't be left completely in the dark. The official website has already revealed all product versions, with pre-orders for the "Super Premium Edition" and "Premium Edition" now open on the ASOBI STORE. More specific details and availability dates will be announced later. For those eagerly awaiting this remake, keep an eye out for future updates and see what surprises the official team has in store!
