Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Gets Anime Adaptation, "Sekiro No Defeat," Exclusively on Crunchyroll with Full Hand-Drawn Animation

FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki's 2019 hit, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, captivated players with its challenging 'Souls-like' gameplay set in the tumultuous Sengoku period of Japan.

Good news, shinobi! During the gamescom presentation early this morning (8/20), it was officially announced that the game is getting an anime adaptation titled Sekiro No Defeat (tentative title, meaning 'Sekiro Undefeated'). This highly anticipated series will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll, with animator Kenichi Kutsuna directing and Takahiro Kishida handling character designs. Fans' long-held hopes for an anime are finally coming true!

Newcomer animation studio Qzil.la is taking the reins on production, with KADOKAWA and Arch co-producing and planning. The series promises a unique, fully hand-drawn 2D art style, bringing to life the characters' tragic yet beautiful journeys, breathtaking sword duels, and a world that blends the brutal Sengoku era with classic Japanese aesthetics.

And for all you purists out there, the anime is bringing back the original game's voice cast:

Daisuke Namikawa as Sekiro

Miyuki Sato as Kuro

Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina

Character designer Takahiro Kishida himself drew the first teaser visual, which has just dropped alongside some early animation scenes, giving fans a sneak peek at the vibe of this highly anticipated anime.

While we don't have a release date yet, fans of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are undoubtedly hyped to see how this adaptation brings the world of the One-Armed Wolf to life. Stay tuned for more official updates!
