Any Gunpla enthusiast knows the thrill of customization. Beyond painting, cutting, or weathering, true freedom lies in cross-series mashups, unleashing boundless creativity!
Recently, Japanese Gunpla builder Garz (@garz4351) took to X to showcase an incredible custom build, fusing the "FM 1/100 Forbidden Gundam" and "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos" through a masterful combination of paint and parts. The stunning result has earned widespread praise, with fans amazed at how seamlessly these two distinct mobile suits could be blended.

These two mobile suits hail from completely different universes—"Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans"—and their design aesthetics couldn't be more distinct. For Garz, it was a fresh challenge. He initially just thought the Forbidden Gundam's "Hresvelgr" iron ball weapon might look cool on Barbatos, sparking the idea to combine them.

According to Garz, he didn't just combine the two kits; he also incorporated parts from other sets. He envisioned the creation as a "Barbatos Gundam specialized for atmospheric flight" and repainted it in the Forbidden Gundam's signature black and red color scheme, giving it an even more menacing presence.

His build process was meticulous: starting with a full body prime (skipping grey primer), he refined and sanded nearly every single part, from head to toe. This painstaking effort ensured the two mobile suits integrated seamlessly, with no awkward proportions or jarring components.
The color scheme was a tough decision, but he ultimately leaned into the Forbidden Gundam's style, using red and black as the dominant, more imposing hues, accented with a touch of standard mechanical grey.

Given the already impressive detail of both the MG and FM Gunpla kits, a bit of paint, some decals, and careful, proportional assembly were all it took to make this build pop. Paired with a black backdrop, the result is absolutely epic.

He even managed to retain the Forbidden Gundam's original MA (Mobile Armor) transformation mechanism, though the shoulder armor didn't quite fit as planned—a minor setback, he admits!

This kind of creative, cross-series modification perfectly embodies the beloved Gunpla mantra: "Gunpla is freedom!" If you're looking for inspiration, be sure to check out Garz's other incredible builds on X—he's got a ton of amazing ideas!
