Gundam's official fashion label, STRICT-G, has always offered fans a fresh take on apparel through its sub-brand, STRICT-G JAPAN, which masterfully blends traditional Japanese culture and art into its designs.
Following their recent collaboration with traditional Japanese apparel maker Miyata Orimono on two "Mobile Suit Gundam" 45th Anniversary Hanten Jackets, STRICT-G JAPAN has just unveiled two new Haori jackets today (September 19th), celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Z Gundam." These stylish pieces are priced at 26,400 JPY and are currently available for pre-order on the Japanese Premium Bandai website.

Founded in 1913, Miyata Orimono boasts over a century of expertise in crafting traditional Japanese garments. Their artisanal approach ensures each piece reflects a legacy of quality, allowing wearers to experience the exquisite texture and dedication of a hundred years of craftsmanship.

These two new Haori jackets feature designs inspired by the Zeta Gundam and Hyaku-Shiki. Every step, from weaving the fabric to the final stitching, is meticulously completed in Miyata Orimono's own Japanese factory. This seamless, in-house production guarantees that each jacket is crafted with utmost care, allowing wearers to truly appreciate the artisanal skill and the premium feel of Japanese-made textiles.
Not only do these Haori boast unique colors and breathable, non-sticky fabric, making them perfect for year-round wear, but they also let you channel the iconic coolness of both mobile suits while carrying the spirit of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
▼ Zeta Gundam Edition
The back of this jacket features a dynamic, Japanese-style brushstroke illustration of the Zeta Gundam. The fabric itself uses a dobby weave, creating a subtle yet intricate textured surface that gives the simple design surprising depth.
What's more, the fabric chosen is "Tonbo" (Dragonfly) wamomen cotton. In Japan, dragonflies have long been revered as "victory insects" because they only fly forward, never backward. This made them a symbol of "unyielding spirit" and "victory" for samurai. Today, they represent good fortune, longevity, and the achievement of goals.

▼ Hyaku-Shiki Edition
The Hyaku-Shiki jacket features a powerful, Japanese-style brushstroke depiction of the mobile suit's iconic shimmer on the back. Wearing this, it'll be hard for anyone to miss the Hyaku-Shiki's commanding brilliance.
This edition uses "Mugiuchi" (Wheat Threshing) wamomen cotton. Its interwoven resist-dyed and colored threads create a pattern that evokes scattered, dancing wheat ears. Historically, "Mugiuchi" was a significant traditional event celebrating bountiful harvests and communal joy, making this fabric a symbol of "good fortune and auspicious omens."
