Veteran voice actress Yuko Miyamura, best known for her iconic roles as Asuka Langley Soryu in "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and Kazuha Toyama in "Detective Conan," has just dropped a bombshell: she's launching her own VTuber activities! The news immediately sent ripples of excitement across the internet.

Miyamura, who officially debuted as a voice actress in 1994 and is now 53 years old, first teased her VTuber avatar at her "30th Anniversary Commemoration Event" this past May. The character design is handled by none other than manga artist Yumi Kōga (@yunk99), celebrated for works like "Genji," "Choujuu Densetsu," and "LOVELESS." Fans can mark their calendars: the VTuber is set to make its official live stream debut at the "Yuko Miyamura Birthday Festival 2025" on December 4.
Miyamura herself playfully acknowledged the news on X, quipping, "I'm 53 now, and my eyes are practically closing during late-night streams, plus my skin isn't what it used to be, so it's a bit embarrassing. But the VTuber avatar I announced at my 30th-anniversary concert is finally here!"
This new challenge is particularly inspiring for fans, as Yuko Miyamura had previously taken a break from some work due to health concerns. Now, she's back with a fresh VTuber persona.
In a 2022 interview, she candidly shared, "My voice wouldn't come out, my words would get tangled, and I didn't know when I'd recover... I'd been voicing Kazuha Toyama in 'Detective Conan' for nearly 15 years, and I even personally asked the producer if I could step down." However, the producer encouraged her to "focus on getting healthy first," allowing her to continue her role and gradually recover.

Interacting with fans as a VTuber is definitely a growing trend, and it offers Yuko Miyamura an exciting new avenue to explore. If you're curious, be sure to keep an eye out for her upcoming YouTube live streams!
