The manga "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt," penned by Yasuo Ohtagaki, kicked off its serialization in 2012, later spawning an ONA series and two movie adaptations. This year, it finally wrapped up its run.
Recently, Ohtagaki-sensei took to X to show off his latest masterpiece: a LEGO build of the "Salamis" battleship, a vessel featured in a "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt" spinoff manga. Fans were absolutely floored, marveling at his incredible LEGO skills – turns out he's not just a manga maestro, but a brick-building wizard too! The creation quickly became a hot topic online.
This particular "Salamis" model is based on its appearance in the fourth volume of the "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt" spinoff manga. Its detailed portrayal in the comic, complete with special design notes, left a lasting impression.
Ohtagaki-sensei even playfully quipped that with the "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt" manga finally concluding its serialization this year, he now has more free time to dive into hobbies he's always wanted to pursue – like building LEGOs to his heart's content!
Given that he designed the ship himself, it's no surprise Ohtagaki-sensei meticulously recreated every detail using LEGO bricks. The physical model even offers a more comprehensive view of its intricate features than the flat comic panels.
But this truly shows Ohtagaki-sensei is a serious LEGO enthusiast! Building such a massive, detailed piece from scratch definitely takes some serious skill.
With the manga's 13-year run finally ending this year, it seems Yasuo Ohtagaki genuinely has more time for his passions. We might just see him sharing more of his awesome hobbies on social media in the future!
