"Monster Hunter Wilds" Performance Controversy Explodes: Is More DLC the Secret to Better FPS?

Ever since its 2025 launch, "Monster Hunter Wilds" (モンスターハンターワイルズ) has garnered praise for its gameplay and content. But PC players have been plagued by persistent performance issues. Despite multiple patches from developer Capcom, reports of FPS drops and unstable performance continued to flood in. Now, a recent player investigation might have just uncovered a shocking potential culprit.

Reddit user de_Tylmarande claims that while analyzing the game's performance, they discovered "Monster Hunter Wilds" runs extensive background checks to verify which paid DLCs are tied to a player's account. These checks aren't just resource hogs; they directly impact game performance. And here's the kicker: the more DLCs you own, the smoother the game apparently runs.

The player conducted comparative tests using two Steam accounts: one with all DLCs purchased and installed, and another with absolutely no extra content. Under identical settings and operations, the former experienced virtually no performance issues, while the latter suffered frequent FPS drops. To further validate their findings, they even created a mod that tricked the game into thinking DLCs were installed. The result? Performance immediately improved dramatically, maintaining stable and smooth gameplay even without any graphical setting adjustments.

What's even more controversial is that the more DLCs the mod simulated, the more significant the performance boost. This discovery immediately ignited a firestorm of discussion within the community. Many players are outright calling it a "pay-for-performance" system, suggesting that a smooth experience seemingly requires shelling out cash for a ton of extra content.

Capcom has yet to issue an official response to these findings. However, the player has already reported their research to the developers, and the analysis team Digital Foundry is now also looking into the matter. As the debate continues to heat up, "Monster Hunter Wilds'" performance design and DLC mechanics are likely to become a major focal point that Capcom will have to address head-on.
