Toho's Film Business Smashes Records with Four Billion-Yen Hits Last Year, Delivering Its Strongest Performance Ever

Last year, 2025, was a stellar year for Japanese cinema, with numerous titles not only dominating the domestic box office but also achieving remarkable success overseas.

Toho Co., Ltd., a powerhouse behind multiple films grossing over 10 billion yen, recently unveiled its financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending February 2026 (March-November). The company's performance was nothing short of explosive, setting new historical highs across the board. Blockbusters like "Demon Slayer" and "National Treasure" were major drivers, making it an incredibly successful year for Toho.

Toho's Q3 (March-November) results for the fiscal year ending February 2026 include:

Revenue: 281.366 billion yen (up 20.2% year-on-year)

Operating Profit: 60.092 billion yen (up 13.8% year-on-year)

Ordinary Profit: 60.880 billion yen (up 18.1% year-on-year)

Quarterly Net Income: 46.587 billion yen (up 36.5% year-on-year)

All figures represent new all-time records.

Notably, films such as "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza's Return," "National Treasure," "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc," and even the first half's "Detective Conan: The One-Eyed Afterimage" all crossed the 10-billion-yen box office milestone. Coupled with strong performances from "Exit 8" and "TOKYO MER: Mobile Emergency Room – South Sea Mission," Toho's film division truly exploded.

Breaking down the results by business segment, Toho's core film business showed particularly outstanding performance:

Film Revenue: 148.5066 billion yen (up 39.4% year-on-year)

Film Operating Profit: 33.8 billion yen (up 47.0% year-on-year)

These figures can almost be described as "surging."

With a continuous stream of blockbuster releases, Toho's cinema operations, including TOHO CINEMAS, also performed exceptionally well. The company stated that overall operations have maintained an excellent level since "the summer box office season, which set an all-time record."

In contrast, the IP & Animation business, responsible for TV anime production and copyright management, reported:

Revenue: 55.792 billion yen (up 8.0% year-on-year)

Operating Profit: 15.189 billion yen (down 17.6% year-on-year)

While profit saw a slight decline, the segment was still bolstered by popular titles including "My Hero Academia," "Jujutsu Kaisen," "The Apothecary Diaries," "Haikyuu!!," and "SPY×FAMILY."

Toho also teased numerous upcoming projects for 2026, with "Godzilla Minus One" highlighted as a major release slated for November, promising not to disappoint fans.
