Get ready, trainers! During the Xbox Developer_Direct 2026 broadcast on January 23, 2026, Game Freak, the masterminds behind the Pokémon series, officially pulled back the curtain on fresh gameplay for their brand-new title, "Beast of Reincarnation." Even better? The game is slated for a summer release this year and will be a day-one launch on Game Pass Ultimate, meaning subscribers can dive in right away!

The dev team finally gave us a full rundown of the game's world and core systems. "Beast of Reincarnation" centers around a "plant" theme, set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in 4026 AD. The land is overrun by "Corrupted," grotesque lifeforms born from the fusion of animals and plants. Towering "Overlords" spawn dangerous "Filth-Forests." Game Freak says they want to paint a picture of a beautiful yet brutal post-apocalyptic world, exploring the intertwining and clashing of life itself.
Meet Emma the Sealer, our protagonist, who's been afflicted by "Filth" since birth but also wields the power to control plants. On her journey, she encounters Ku, a Corrupted dog. Despite their inherently conflicting natures, fate intertwines their paths, forcing them to travel together. Emma carries the burden of being a "Child of Sealing," tasked with hunting down the Corrupted, sealing their "Filth" within herself, and ultimately heading west to confront the source of all calamity: the "Beast of Reincarnation."

Game Freak, when detailing the combat system, highlighted the game's biggest draw: a seamless blend of action and command-based mechanics. Emma, the protagonist, engages in real-time sword combat, while her companion, Ku, unleashes skills via commands – and their actions directly influence each other.
The developers explained: "We didn't want combat to be purely about reflexes. We want players to make calm, strategic decisions even in tense situations." To achieve this, the battle screen slows down when players select skills for Ku, giving them crucial breathing room to strategize.

The broadcast also revealed several characters and faction details, including Golems who seal human souls into mechanical bodies, as well as Brad and Kaguya, who aid Emma on her journey. We also met Kuno, a swordsman who travels with his own Corrupted companion. Game Freak promises these characters will offer diverse perspectives on the world, adding rich layers to the narrative.
As for launch plans, officials confirmed that "Beast of Reincarnation" is set to drop this summer, featuring three difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, and Story. The dev team emphasized their goal: to ensure that whether you're an action game fanatic or an RPG aficionado, you'll find a play style that clicks with you.
