Celebrating its monumental 40th anniversary this year, Dragon Ball just unleashed some massive news at today's "Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival" – and we're not just talking about new anime and game announcements.
The main event? The official reveal of the Dragon Ball series' 40th-anniversary special video! Imagine classic scenes, now supercharged with an epic, brand-new score composed by none other than the legendary Hans Zimmer himself. Fans are already losing their minds!
The biggest highlight of this 40th-anniversary video is its incredible dedication to faithfully capturing Akira Toriyama-sensei's diverse styles, brushstrokes, and expressions. The production team went all out, blending multiple visual techniques for each illustration to create an unprecedented animated experience.
This isn't just animating drawings; it's about meticulously preserving the original texture, color, and even the unique "flavor" of the lines, then bringing them to dynamic life. Viewers get to relive Goku's entire journey, from his growth to his epic adventures, all bursting with raw power and emotional depth.
The special video's score was crafted by world-class film composer Hans Zimmer, known for masterpieces like "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Lion King," and "Inception," and a recipient of multiple Oscars and other international awards. Toei Animation handled the animation production, with Naoki Miyahara directing.
Zimmer also sent a special congratulatory message for the event, sharing his excitement with Dragon Ball fans worldwide: "Huge congrats to Dragon Ball on its 40th anniversary! I'm absolutely thrilled to have been a part of this incredibly significant 40th-anniversary special video. Composing the score while immersing myself in Akira Toriyama-sensei's breathtaking illustrations and animation was an incredibly inspiring, joyful, and exhilarating process. I truly hope Dragon Ball fans worldwide enjoy this piece!"
