Following the release of Marvel's "Thunderbolts*", the screen time allotted to Taskmaster sparked considerable debate among fans. Portrayed by Olga Kurylenko, the character appeared with an upgraded look but was given only one line of dialogue and a brief action sequence before being swiftly killed off early in the plot by Ghost. This left many viewers surprised and disappointed, leading to the launch of the "#JusticeForTaskmaster" campaign. 
According to foreign media reports, Taskmaster was originally conceived as a member of the "New Avengers" in the film's initial concept, with a complete subplot planned. This storyline would have explored her developing a bond with Ghost due to memory defects, while repeatedly attempting to kill John Walker.

Director Jake Schreier ultimately decided to cut this content, believing the film required more immediate dramatic stakes. He therefore opted to have a major character sacrifice themselves early on.
Fan reactions to this decision have been mixed. Some argued that the plot served the overall tension, while others felt the character was underutilized. As discussions continued to grow, Olga Kurylenko herself addressed the fan support during promotions for her new film, "Misdirection," personally responding to the outpouring of fan support.
She stated in an interview, "It means a lot to me, and it really touched my heart. I'm very grateful." She confessed that she hadn't anticipated such a strong reaction, adding, "I didn't expect so many people to care about this character, and I didn't expect them to speak up for her like that. It's really sweet."
Kurylenko also revealed that she even personally contacted the fan who initiated the campaign:
"I actually already spoke with the person who first started this campaign. He posted on Instagram, and I replied to him, and now we're in direct contact," she said. "I personally thanked him because I truly feel that support is very kind."
Although Taskmaster's exit in "Thunderbolts*" was quite sudden, and she was widely seen as one of the most expendable characters in the film, Kurylenko has repeatedly stated in the past that she would be willing to return to the role if Marvel extends an invitation. And with the ongoing progression of multiverse-themed projects, whether there's still room for the character's return remains open to speculation.
