Godzilla Minus Zero Teaser Drops, Ryunosuke Kamiki & Minami Hamabe Return! Sequel Heads to NYC's Statue of Liberty

Director Takashi Yamazaki just dropped the first teaser and some juicy plot details for Godzilla Minus Zero at GKIDS' CinemaCon presentation! This flick is a direct sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One and marks a huge milestone as the first Japanese-produced Godzilla film shot entirely in IMAX.

Official intel reveals that "Godzilla Minus Zero" picks up in 1949, two years after the chaotic events of the first film. The story continues to follow the Shikishima family as they face a brand-new catastrophic threat. And yes, you heard right! Original stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe are back, reprising their roles as pilot Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, respectively.

Footage screened at CinemaCon showed Koichi once again piloting a plane through a ruined city, while Noriko, still with her eye bandaged, comforted their adopted daughter Akiko. Suddenly, Godzilla emerges from the sea, attacking the aircraft and plunging the city into chaos once more. The clip ended with a shot of the Statue of Liberty, with Godzilla looming behind it, strongly hinting that this installment is taking the kaiju action to New York City!

The previous film, "Godzilla Minus One," was a global box office smash, raking in over $116 million worldwide and snagging the Best Visual Effects award at the 96th Academy Awards – a first for a Japanese film.

Toho has announced that "Godzilla Minus Zero" is set to hit Japanese theaters on November 3, 2026, which is "Godzilla Day." North American audiences can catch it starting November 6, courtesy of GKIDS.
